FALCONS vs TITANS post gm report
after coming off an impressive 21-0 win over a very tough texans team atlanta was going to be put through another test as they traveled to tennessee to take on the titans. the test this week was not on stopping the best rushing game in the league, which the falcons passed last week...but rather an explosive passing attack with one of the best receiving cores in the league. desean jackson, steve smith and hines ward with mcnabb under the helm would answer a lot of questions about atlantas secondary and their new approach on defending the pass.
its no secret that atlantas know for controlling the game with the run and a west coast passing game that seemed to be working again this week after coming up with a big pick on the titans first possession. the falcons scored first with a solid drive capped off by a 3 yard michael turner run, whos looking to earn himself that nfc hb of the year award he thought he deserved last season. the titans looked to have totally abandoned their run and came out in 4 and 5 wide sets every down, mcnabb was constantly on the move but with the use of spys and contains he was kept in check for the most part and the defense forced another turnover that lead to an atlanta drive resulting in a 3 td yard pass to the veteran houshman.
the titans were able to gain some field position late in the 2nd and tack on a field goal before halftime making it a 14-3 game. upon getting the 2nd half kick, the falcons stayed true to the run and put together another long drive with turner punching in another one to go up 21-3. throughout the entire second half mcnabb was passing the ball every down, and atlanta's 3 man front was getting great pressure causing a total of 2 forced fumbles and 3 sacks on mcnabb as well as 3 more interceptions to eventually set up the last drive comprised entirely of michael turner who sealed the game with a 4th quarter td from 9 yards out making it a final, 28-3.
sam bradford finished the game 12/13 to 8 different receivers with one batted pass at the line, 1 td, 0 int and 157 yards. turners 124 yard, 3 td performance helped the falcons to maintain tempo and control the pace of the game. overall, atlanta faced 3 - 5 wr sets every play...and handled it well with only giving up 117 yards through the air and 28 on the ground from mcnabb. the falcons have another tough game ahead of the as they prepare for the colts this week.
